Robin's pincushion

Robin's pincushion or rose bedeguar gall growing on a dog rose - a chemically induced distortion caused by a gall wasp. The gall is surrounded by sticky filaments which start off green and turn red in the early autumn. These ones have dried out now and are dull brown but the wasp larvae is in there somewhere waiting to emerge in the spring.
