Absent Voices on the Air @BBCJFCulture

This picture shows Absent Voices' lead artist, Alec Galloway, with broadcaster Janice Forsyth.

Alec and Absent Voices artist Alastair Cook were on Janice's Monday to Friday arts magazine programme on BBC Radio Scotland, The Culture Studio with Janice Forsyth, to talk about Absent Voices and what the project's aims are in telling the story of Greenock's once mighty sugar industry.

Alec was at Pacific Quay, BBC Scotland's HQ on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow with Janice, while Alastair was in a studio in Edinburgh.

The two artists gave a very good account of Absent Voices, and Janice was obviously fascinated – as most people are once they realise the sheer weight of history which surrounds Greenock's links to sugar.

And then there's the Tate thing. Most people coming fresh to this subject (myself included) have never made the connection between the Tate galleries and Tate – as in Tate and Lyle sugar.

You can listen to the broadcast for another four days HERE
