"....Lighten out darkness, we beseech Thee......"

It was down to this, or "Paternoster Row".

Quick nip into Houghton for a bite to eat and a troll around Carlisle. Basically an exercise to justify the trip, other than ... Go...Pick up repaired lens...Come back...eat.
Herself, having started to knit again, was on the hunt for a pattern. Not just any old pattern, but one she knew she'd be happy to wear on completion.
"One supper time" there "used to was" a knitting shop down past the Catherdral. Got there only to find, like many other established institutions ... There it was ...GONE.
On the return wander we spotted this illuminated tree, caught in the reflections of the setting sun shining down Paternoster Row and off the widows across the way.
Mam used to say that "Paternoster Row" was so called because the local Monks used to say the Lord's Prayer as they walked down it.
Either I miss-remember, or Mam Miss-informed. I thought she had said it was just long enough to say The Lord's Prayer along its length. I must have miss-remembered because I've just, slowly & haltingly, read it in around 45secs. The Monks must have been jogging along at a fair old lick.

Fancy timing yourself?
"PATER noster, qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut
et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.
Amen.
