The Preston Twins

This is a bit of a planned emergency blip - today was all about office Christmas party organisation and all you'd have got from me at lunchtime was the party food aisle at Sainsburys.

But the Preston Twins are worth celebrating. They're 350 years old and reputedly the oldest elm trees in the world, and I pass them every day on my ride to and from work. We're proud of our elms in Brighton and I've mentioned before the display of people-power that saved one of our historic trees after our (Green!) local council inadvertently tried to have it cut down to facilitate a traffic scheme.

There was a major fungus scare last year, and climate change is helping disease to spread, but these trees remain - for now.
