High Tide

Much higher tide than forecast combined with the horrendous overnight gales meant that when it got light this morning we realised that our dinghy had disappeared. It was a sturdy wee boat, on a substantial wooden trailer, and hadn't moved in the gales the other week, or in the past several years, but last night the combination of wind and waves had done for her. Looks as if she was simply washed off the shore.

Mike spotted something white on the other side of the bay so I drove round and there found bits of white fibreglass amongst the waist high banks of seaweed. Such a shame, but there you go, that's nature for you. We shall look for a replacement in the spring.

This is further along the village, well after high tide and the gales, so you get an idea of what it must have been like at its peak.

There was flooding and damage down in St Margaret's Hope too this morning, but luckily this year the water didn't get into the shop, which was the main concern!
