Phone Box - Back Home!

In Kirkintilloch a shiny red phone box has appeared - still in its packaging.

Its a refurbished one and will soon be joined by several others in different parts of the town. They are examples of the K6 and K8 models which were made in the town's Lion Foundry and supplied not only throughout Britain but exported to numerous countries all over the world.

The idea is to recognise the heritage of the town. The precise location of the others has still to be decided as has a use for them, although information booths seems to be favourite.

The Foundry also made elaborate bandstands, shelters, shopping arcades, verandahs and other such structures. There are examples in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, London, Birmingham, Portsmouth and many other locations throughout the world.
