La Corbière lighthouse, Jersey

La Corbièr is a treacherous point jutting out from the western side of the island of Jersey. Just here for a day-trip to attend a funeral, but had to drive round the island and managed to take in the view and the swelling seas.

It is reached by a causeway that gets flooded and we had to dodge the bigger waves that managed to stack up enough water to top the causeway. Not something to try on a rising tide.

The lighthouse tower was built in 1874 and was the first to be built out of a stack of preformed concrete sections. The coast here has been the scene of many wrecks - one as recently as 1995.
