Happy 100th Birthday, Ma

Connie Lesar and her husband came to Australia from South Africa in the 1970s. Some other family members were already here, and others joined them later. The Lesars were Envoys in the Salvation Army and became well known and respected in Canberra for their work among young people in crisis - and their practical and spiritual generosity. They were affectionately known as Pa and Ma. Her husband died some years ago, but Ma has soldiered on, and continues to serve in the Salvation Army she loves. Ma was 100 on Wednesday, and today family - from daughters down to great-great-grandchildren - Salvo comrades and friends gathered to celebrate her birthday and honour a remarkable woman.
