To Plant a Damson Tree

In the autumn, to my horror, I was unable to obtain any local damsons.

I had to resort, at great expense, to the purchase of a batch from our local supermarket.

That was to be able to prepare one of my favourite preserves namely spiced pickled damsons made according to the recipe of the Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite near Kendal.

After that experience I resolved to take action. I ordered a damson tree from a local nursery and it arrived yesterday.

The weather permitted the planting of the tree today and so it was duly put in the ground and I wish it luck. It is a variety called Merryweather but as you can see, it will be some years before it will produce any fruit.

Here's hoping....
