Anniversary

Today our neighbours were remembering the anniversary of the death of the grandfather who died one year ago. Their house is just behind ours and the grandmother cleans our house for us and she made us breakfast this morning . I think this might be a regular thing. Unfortunately we didn't realise she was doing this for us today and had breakfast out so we might have two breakfasts before the end of the day!

The whole family has been chanting/praying all morning. It is a beautiful sound that travels through the community. I find it very soothing.

And we were invited for the family and neighbourhood lunch. I grabbed a photo on the way in while the men and elderly ladies were eating. All the women generally eat after the men. We were given a table inside although we would have been very happy to eat outside too. And we were served a feast on a palm leaf. We feel very very privileged to be honoured in this way.

Even yesterday we were invited to Sona's house for a Christmas celebration .. I will have to write about that another time. Hard to describe but in summary we were given home made wine made from beetroot and grape with plum cake. There was a Jesus skit! (that is how it was described - Sona's family are devout Christians whereas the family we were with this morning are Hindu) singing and I was asked to dance (no music, no partners!) in front of 30 of the local women mainly. You just have to be prepared for anything!
