Squirrelapalooza

Colder in the house today during day two of the blackout. It eventually dropped to 13C in the house before the power came on around 11 pm after we had gone to bed. The portable radio was on all day with reports of power being restored here and there. Around 500,000 customers were without power at one point then down to 300,000 then our provider's numbers came in and we were due to get power, they hoped by midnight. Extra help has come in from Ottawa, Manitoba, Michigan and southeastern Ontario to help get the grip up again. Some may not get power until Christmas, Boxing Day, or even the weekend coming.

Overnight, a huge bough came down from the squirrel tree next door. The poor squirrels and doves are having a rough time. Their tails are stuck with ice crystals, leaves, broken feather, and whatnot. One dove is without tail feather altogether and seems to fly okay. Edward counted 18 squirrels in the yard at one time. And, earlier, counted 40 mourning doves in the yard and surround trees. The ground is covered with thick ice so they can't get their usual feeding done. So, Edward tossed out lots and lots of seed and nuts for the hungry beasties.

Feeling much improved today. We got some Christmas wrapping done but had to cancel our trip to my sister's place. I'm just not feeling 100% yet and didn't want to travel. Pretty slick and dangerous roads out, too. We'll catch up maybe later this week.

Edward has blipped ice storm photos, too. His open-access facebook album has more photos.
