Memorable Evening

After a windy 7 hour drive we arrived in Zagora to ride our camels.

Lots of beautiful scenery along the way like the Tichka mountains, the khasbas and several villages and other mountainous backdrop. There was never a dull moment. That topped with authentic bieber music from our guide made the trip a memorable one from get go.

After reaching Zagora we were escorted on camels by our guide for the evening (a nomad called Hassan who spoke and understood English well despite never having attended school. He learnt it from the tourists).

Riding a camel can be rough so took a good 10 minutes to adjust. We stopped for the sunset and this picture before continuing to our base.

The base is a fixed tent style accommodation designed to accommodate several groups so we had about 30 people staying altogether that evening. We started off by having tea with Hassan followed by dinner (soup and chicken Targine). Then after dinner time it was time for traditional nomad music so we all gathered around the fire and clapped and supported the local lads.

Afterwards majority of the people went to sleep as we had an early start (6.30am) next morning to see the sunrise and have breakfast on time. I had a few reds with another friend and shared it with Hassan after dinner. Later I met with Hassan next to the fire around 11pm while he was having his dinner (tea and toasted flatbread using the heat from the fire). I laid next to the fire and star gazed (on of my favourite things to do in the world) until a small group returned from walking around the dunes. It's was a memorable and beautiful evening.
