Christmas Eve

Like a herd of turtles, we repacked our bags, loaded the groceries, stored the sports gear, emptied our bladders, and finally took to the road. We headed north.

Along the way we witnessed a great stretch of forest encased in ice. It was so beautiful yet I knew a great population were out of electricity because of it.

Four and a half hours later we arrived at our holiday getaway. We will meet more family and nestle in our rental on the beach, cozy fire roaring, great music playing, and the traditional Christmas Eve supper of oyster stew or tomato soup and tuna or grilled cheese sandwiches to fill our bellies.

Santa's plate is filled with date filled cookies, Christmas bark, gingerbread, almond crescents, and accompanied by a tall glass of milk. My heart is already filled with gratitude for one more reunion of three families to play, laugh, sing, eat, and reminisce.
