This is a view on Spaanse Kade (Spanish Quai) along Oude Haven, an inner harbor in the city of Rotterdam.

The Spanish Quay is a street in Rotterdam. It was the eastern embankment of the Old Port , in 1637 and is so named because the Spanish envoy Marquis Ambrosio Spinola set foot here on January 31, 1608 . Spinola was heading for the Admiralty of the Maze for negotiations that the twelve- year truce - starting in 1609 - would usher and had come to the country because the ports were frozen .

At the point of Spaansekade in line with the Roobrug , the current Spanish Bridge , stood a cottage, which was suspected that the Marquis had stayed here. It was called the House Spinola later. An image of the prince long adorned the facade, on the ground floor has long been established Bakery Spinola. Behind the house the Hotel Weimar was built later .

In 1984 architect Piet Blom designed a canopy carried on Blaak, making a footbridge from Spaansekade, over the roof of the theater café Plan C through Kolk, to Binnenrotte Square. Nowadays there are located at Spaansekade several cafes with outdoor seating. As you can see in the picture ...
