family pumpkin harvest

It's getting colder around here and we decided that since October is here and the pumpkins are going for sale in the stores, it was time for the family pumpkin harvest. This is our first year growing pumpkins and we had a bumper crop of 9 beautiful, just right sized pumpkins! One of them is still green, so we left it to see if it would turn before it starts freezing!

Anyways, our pumpkins grow up on top of a big rock ledge we have in our back yard. So, we had a family affair climbing up the rocks, cutting pumpkins off the vine, and hauling pumpkins back down the rocks! We had fun talking about all the things we'd do with the pumpkins as Halloween got closer!

Today was a big "mail" day. The kids each received a letter from their cousin Haylie and were thrilled beyond belief. They were screaming, yelling, and dancing as they opened the mailbox and found two letters, one addressed to each of them. It was a really really exciting day.. and one that reminded me how special a simple letter in the mail can be for a child!

In the spirit of mail, we took dinner to our neighbors who have a new baby girl. The kids were excited about this and filled up four envelopes with confetti type materials to deliver with dinner. I felt the need to apologize to the neighbors and warn them to open the envelopes carefully! It had the potential to be a huge mess. I spent all afternoon cleaning up the aftermath around our house!
