Izumo Taisha

We left the hotel at 0800 this morning and took the local train and bus to Izumo Taisha. This is one of the main buildings in the shrine, called the Kagura-den. The Kagura-den features the largest shimenawa (sacred straw rope) in Japan; it is 13.5 meters long and weighs around 5 tons. We were very lucky with the weather; not too cold and no rain until we boarded the train to make the long journey home. It was a lovely little trip away but now it is nice to be home sweet home.
