The railway track...

In the last part of the 19th century, the Caledonian Railway sneaked into Peebles by the back door to compete with the Peebles Railway Company. This line began in Symington, hooking up there with the Glasgow to Carlisle line, came across the country through Biggar and Broughton. For a time, there was a spur down through Tweedsmuir with a station at the Crook Inn, then on to Talla Reservoir to help with the transport of men and building supplies.

This is part of the track between Lyne Station and Peebles. The line closed in 1952.

What a nostalgia I share with many for those days when every small village had its station.
