I thought these barriers blocking off the bridge seemed highly symbolic: I mean, the bridge that leads to the Scottish Government building? Blocked off to the public?

Surely it represented the government refusing to connect with ordinary people. How much more obvious could it be?

But then one of the people I was with pointed out it was just because they were fixing the boards on the footbridge. "Probably just temporary, I'd have thought," they added, cheerfully.

Then someone else pointed out there was another route just round the corner.

Which sort of undermined the symbolism, really.
