Kittens' tails

Life springs eternal - the hazel catkins are forming ere the year is out.

Catkin, it seems, is derived from the Dutch katteken ‘kitten’, presumably because of the similarity with a kitten's tail. In some parts of Britain they are also known as lambs' tails.
