At Scarborough: Wacky raft races....x

Every town has to have its way of celebrating the passing of another turkey dinner, the lighting of another christmas pudding and sleeping off the exhaustion from a ridiculously early morning.

Scarborough's boxing day tradition of launching homemade not-so-seaworthy vessels into the oncoming tide, (albeit in the protection of the harbour). The crew upon these vessels are seeming as unqualified their building skills, sporting a variety of dodgy costumes too. They come armed, boxes of eggs and flour are pelted like snow balls across the slipway. Some make it onto the boats, but most of the crew are fully employed in steering and paddling their rudderless rafts. Its amazing how they navigate around the sailing yachts, which stand up tall and dignified in comparison.

The lifeboat followed the stragglers home, no sinkers this year. Dignity intact.....x
