Just a Trickle

Almost exactly a year ago, on December 29th, I posted a picture of our creek in full spate. It had rained hard during the night, and when we opened our front door we could hear it roaring between its banks behind the houses across the street. That was just about the last significant rain we've had. Today we walked down to have a look. A trickle of water was barely moving down the central channel. Ozzie's swimming holes have long since dried up. Last year there were mushrooms popping up everywhere, This year there are only clumps of dried grass. A ridge of high pressure has parked itself to the north of us and shows no sign of moving.

We spent the day moving everything out of our bathroom so that the demolition can begin as soon as we leave town tomorrow. In just a year, we have acquired a dizzying array of analgesics, Band Aids, cleaning products, hair products, brushes, combs, make-up and grooming aids. Although I sorted through everything when we left Berkeley, what was left went into two big baskets under the counter. They weren't very convenient so it seems we just bought more rather than hunting for what we wanted. The baskets are now in the guest bedroom, where we put all our orphaned kitchen items during last year's remodel. It doesn't get any easier...

I'm resisting the urge to vacuum the house before we leave....
