World on Fire

After a tiring day travelling on trains and buses in Sri Lanka, where I had been volunteering, my boyfriend and I arrived in the south coast town of Galle just before it got dark. We hastened towards the seafront to relax and recuperate before dinner time. Sweaty and tired, we had no idea we were to encounter one of the most exceptional and spiritual experiences of our lives. Sitting on the sea wall looking out to sea, we saw the sun going down in quite an extraordinary fashion, as the whole sea appeared to catch fire. We weren't the only ones enjoying the spectacle, as you can see from the young boys who look like tiny specks on the left of my photo, balancing on rocks in their attempt to get closer to the sunset.
