Billabong with blue sky

Went for a drive today and thought I would do something quite different for my Sunday sky shot. This time it is sky plus a typical Aussie billabong.

Nothing dramatic, just a typical blue sky of a perfect sunny day south of Adelaide. Why is it blue you may ask?

Technically, air molecules absorb the light then re-emit it in a different direction. Because this process is more efficient at shorter wavelengths, violet or blue light is scattered much more than red light.

Therefore in mid-afternoon when this shot was taken, the sky is a very nice shade of blue because we have more light scattered at us from all directions.

Bigger water and sky.

Thanks Lenna for this the last Sunday of your SundaySkies challenge. It has been so much fun. May I wish you and all the other sky blippers a very happy and healthy new year.
