Loco 45305

Loco no. 45305, an LMS Class 5 4-6–0 or ‘Black Five’ loco, so named as all the engines of that class were painted black, is currently in service on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway during the Christmas season, both on the pre-Christmas Santa Specials and the current Mince Pie runs.
Constructed in 1937, the loco spent its working life on the southerly sections of the former LMS network, where it was in service until the end of main line steam in the summer of 1968. It became the last locomotive on the scrap line of Drapers of Hull, who broke up 742 former BR locomotives. Loco 45305 was due to become the 743rd. but it was instead decided to keep it and restore it to full running order. It is currently one of the locos whose permanent home is the Great Central Railway, Loughborough, Leicestershire.
