Back in Kenya

Overnight flight from Istanbul to Nairobi via Dubai. Minimal sleep, so luckily we were able to check straight into our hotel and steal a couple of hours sleep.

Aside from a proliferation of Barack Obama paraphernalia and an apparent blitz on tidying up the city' Nairobi seems much the same as it was two years ago. My personal favourite of the city initiatives is the workers with big yellow coats emblazoned with 'Corruption is Evil Parking Attendant' - and stupid me didn't have my camera on me....

For us, Nairobi was always a bit of a city escape when we'd had enough of living in a rural town and craved something like going to a movie or some variety in food. And so it was that we fell back into our old ways, starting with getting chinese for lunch!

The main task for the day was sorting out payment for our safari to Lake Nakuru tomorrow, which occurred with amazing efficiency. Looks like we've picked a good one. Still, if we hadn't, there would have been plenty of other choice - it's nigh on impossible to walk around Nairobi without being approached by 47 thousand people advertising safaris. Some of them are amazingly persistent, but the combination of fast walking, a bit of swahili and occasionally agreeing to take a business card gets around most of them.

Also had a wander around the Maasai Market in town as we wanted to take some photos. As usual, lots of 'sister, sister', 'just look', 'looking is for free', 'just buy something for one hundred shillings', 'you're from Australia? Kangaroo!' etc. But, we also managed to find our brother a wife - one of the girls running a stall was telling us she'd like a mzungu husband - I'm sure he'll be pleased!

Lasted until 7pm - just - and then fell into bed for a long night sleep while Nairobi partied just outside our window.
