30th December 2013 River Nith in Full Spate

Following almost 24 hours of torrential rain, the River Nith burst it's banks into the surrounding countryside. The noise and speed of the river are almost beyond description. The sound easily drowned out the noise of the traffic along the A76 and trees and large branches could be seen being carried downstream at an alarming rate. Although high and dry here in Auld Girth, one is quickly reminded of those less fortunate during this seasonal time.
