Dainty Dining

Nibbling on a vine maple samara, this Western gray squirrel on our deck railing is intent on ensuring an extra layer of fat for the cold winter months still ahead.

I think we're going to find some interesting shrubs and trees coming up in the back yard next spring, given how busy the squirrels have been caching tasty bits for winter emergency meals!

Their behavior clearly has certain parallels to ours at this time of year...
