Train, Viaduc de Garabit

A northbound passenger train begins its crossing of Gustave Eiffel's engineering masterpiece over the River Truyère, as it begins the final stage of its run along the historic route from Béziers to the junction at Neussargues.

Trains on this stretch of line are few and far between, and I was just walking away after photographing the structure itself when I heard the unmistakeable sound of a train horn. I hurried back to photograph the little two-car rame automoteur that emerged onto the viaduct, and watched (and listened) as it made its way gently across this magnificent structure.
