3rd and 4th Grade Garden

Today, I helped the 3rd and 4th graders at Bob's school plant their lovely vegetable garden. It was such fun! It is part of the Chef in the Garden series that teaches children to grow the food they eat. They had yogurt with granola & fresh fruit as a snack in between their planting shifts. They had so much fun, that they all begged (and some resorted to trickery) to plant more after their shifts were done. Later, I received a large envelope filled with wonderful Thank You Notes from Bob's Class :-)

The stones in the garden were made by the 3rd and 4th graders 4 years ago as part of their Arizona geography unit. Each stone depicts plant life, animals, geologic formations or natural wonders found in Arizona. The chalkboard in the very back of the garden shows the planning mathematics the kids and their teacher used to place all of the stones in this garden. The garden and the school buildings were brand new as of last year, so the stones were built before this garden's time. Yet the students managed to make all of the stepping stones fit perfectly.
