Flooding at the cricket corner

Rain, raining, rainy - whole day again!

It's so easily flooded beside my flat as it is located at the end of the Campbell Park by the canal side.

When I first came here (the UK) and saw the 'Flooding' signposts on rainy days, I was always amazed at this warning message because it often meant no more than a small and shallow pond (sorry to stereotype a bit - but you know what I mean). It is hardly comparable to the great floods in China that I experienced. The use of this word in different contexts gave a very sharp contrast, indeed. Since then, I've attended to the cultural contexts of language in use, which frees my way of expressions and choice of words on many occasions.

So, next time when I see flood in China (hope not), what word shall I say — uh, I would be shocked beyond words!
