Sandhills

The trick being to try to get to the Beef Unit at Univ. of Fl before sunrise. This morning, just when I started to wonder (like I always do) if they would show up...waves of Sandhill Cranes began flying in to spend their day among the cows. This morning there was a fiery sunrise and the trick, of course, is to snap them as they come gliding through it.

Initially the only sound is traffic, people on their way to work and students heading to early classes. Once the Cranes begin to arrive the sound of their vocalizations begins to build, competing with the low level din of the traffic. Once most of the birds that are coming get there, their calls become the predominate sound, almost drowning out the cars. It can get very loud. I feel a bit sorry for people living in the Apartment Complex located directly across from the Cranes.

This image was cropped and the Saturation tweaked just a little, but that was pretty much the true color of the sky. A very beautiful morning and I was home to feed the dogs by 8:00am. Which, of course...is Very Important!
