Grumpy Old Man

Chilean painting

Looking around for something to Blip - darkness came on me suddenly! - I thought of this beautiful painting which I bought a few years ago in Valdivia, Chile. The subject is the Copihue, Lapageria rosea, a lovely scrambling plant from the temperate parts of the Long Country. This has been painted on a piece of bark from the Roble, or Nothofagus obliqua, one of the southern beeches which occur in Chile.

A genuine, hand-made souvenir which I was very pleased to find.
