Lahar Alert

On the first Monday of each month, at noon, Mt. Rainier (classified as an active volcano) inspires a “lahar alert.” For five minutes, loud sirens sound up and down the valley below us. Our German Shepherds run out to listen and often to howl along. We live in a “volcano evacuation area” but I hope we never see the mountain erupt!
