Orange Slush* Plow

Today it rained much of the day, melting some of the ice and snow already on the ground. This plow was making probably his third pass on our street, at midday. Note the headlight reflected in the puddle in the street (view it large). This much cheerier view is in the background.

The forecast is for well below freezing temperatures tonight, thus the big clump of solid slush* in the right foreground (probably left by the plow's first pass) would have been in our way driving out tomorrow. So (despite my healing foot) I drove out to smash it this afternoon, and left the car where it will be easiest to reach across the ice that will be all around tomorrow. Such is life around here these days :)

*Slush (for those unfamiliar with the word) is a mixture of wet snow and ice; it's one of the unpleasant aspects of winter around here.
