Anatole's blips

Colour in the dull weather

The heavy grey clouds, overcast light and soggy ground can make for pretty washed out landscape photography. But a dull day can be instantly brightened by a bright flash of colour as a 'greenie' takes flight coupled with it's 'yaffling' call. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Green Woodpecker
(Picus viridis)

More a lawnpecker than a woodpecker, Green Woodpeckers spend most of their time in the grass probing the ground for ants and grubs.

P.s. Other common names for this include 'Yaffingale' and the 'Laughing Betsey'

P.s.s. Not the sharpest picture here - wrong lens and high ISO, but Lightroom saved the day and made it just about presentable. But this was the best of a bad lot.
