Going Native

Most of the men working on the island wear traditional wrap "skirts" known as a mundu.

The resort is managed by a Sri Lankan company and employs mostly men from Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. There are relatively few Maldivians employed, as it is strongly discouraged by the local government which seeks to limit contact between Maldivians and Westerners to prevent negative influence on their Islamic customs. Similarly, there are virtually no women employed at the resort. Aside from two Sri Lankan managers, the only women working on the island are those employed by the spa and the water sports/dive centers. All housekeepers, landscapers, food and bar staff, boat crews, security, etc are male.
