Latitude Living

Gas Man

We have propane tanks for the water heater and stove in our house in Cuenca. Our gas man comes through our neighborhood every morning in his pickup full of tanks; tooting his horn to alert customers. One tank costs about $2.50 and lasts approximately 2 weeks. The gas is subsidized by the Ecuadorian government which is why it is so inexpensive. We have no air conditioner or furnace for our house since the weather is a consistently not too cold or hot, so our overall utilities are a fraction of what we spent in the States. The low cost of living is one of the benefits of living in this beautiful country.

“Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? ... That's interesting. I hadn't heard that.”
~ George W. Bush
