Gates and Walls

A gate is your mate
if you're heading abroad
and your fate
is to meet a mad-man with a sword,
who, having no horse,
cannot jump the gate.
(And the gate's locked, of course,
which is why it's your mate.)

But a low stone wall
could be your downfall.
