It's not so grim up North

Gate to the ranges.

Whitburn Rifle Range.
The site consists of five Territorial Army firing ranges, one of 400 yards,
one of 600 yards and three of 500 yard,s and a group of buildings on Mill
Lane which may be barrack blocks. World War One practice trenches are
also visible on aerial photographs. The land on which the ranges were built
was once part of the Medieval East Field associated with Whitburn Village.
It seems that most of the ridge and furrow earthworks were scraped away to
create the ranges. Evidence of the former field systems can be clearly seen
on the northern edge of the range ). The range is no longer in use!
