Library Day

Once a month John or Betty drives the mobile library the 16 miles or so out from Kirkwall and half a dozen of us get the chance to have a root through the shelves and take our pick of the books on offer. They call in on the neighbouring island of Burray en route and it is a popular and well used service, largely due to the cheeriness of the librarians.

Not only does it stock books, it also has a supply of useful information leaflets and a battery recycling bin, which is what Ollie seems to be so interested in! Another interesting thing they have on board is a microwave, so on the long days when they are out on the isles they can heat up a cup of soup or a pie!
