superhero plant

we have a plant in our front yard. i don't know what it is. it's not particularly attractive. we have tried to remove it. many times in fact. by "remove", i mean taking a shovel and digging out the entire plant, roots and all. we have done this for several years. we have had professional landscapers also uproot it. but every year this plant comes back to life. even with the recent polar vortex, below zero temperatures, snow, ice and freezing rain, this plant laughs in the face of it all. i'm no expert, but one thing i know ... this is no ordinary plant.
