Visiting Tintern Abbey

An impromptu visit to Tintern Abbey today, as it is only 10 miles or so from Monmouth, our intended destination. The weather and light was very chilly, flat and grey, but the ruins are still fascinating. I got a real feeling for the place, how it might have been in the early 14th century, when it was built. I'm already looking forward to a revisit on a nicer day.

I'm finding the Welsh borders equally fascinating, with an almost alpine landscape, interesting history and buildings, and quite a lot of artists galleries. There roads are remarkably good too, particularly the main roads heading into South Wales. Who would have thought....? Except the Welsh that is.
