Old Conehead !

As requested - this is a view of the Duke of Wellington statue that stands proudly outside the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow from the window of the staff office.

Every day tourists stand around him, taking photographs from all angles trying to capture the Duke and his headgear in all his glory.

It probably started out as a drunken dare back in the 1980's and now the Duke cannot be seen without it. It was even featured as one of the top ten most bizarre monuments in the worlds in the Lonely Planet guide!

Every few days you see a cone perched at a jaunty angle on this head, sometimes, its a yellow one, but mostly its orange. Though we did have a gold one especially transplanted onto his head for the Olympic Games.

The council were even considering stopping this Glasgow Icon from donning his hat but public outrage soon made them see sense...

Glaswegians and visitors to the city alike love the Duke and his traffic cone and so long may he continue to wear one !
