Tales wagging the dog

I remember when the first of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City books debuted in the UK, I was working for his British publisher. The editors were a little shaky as to whether it would be a hit – if only they had known! Here we are, 20 years later, with about eight books available and TV serials concerning the wonderful world of Anna Madrigal and her friends.

A few years ago EdiSteve and I found the real 28 Barbary Lane in San Francisco, and soon we will be meeting Mr Maupin (again!) as he visits Edinburgh once more to promote his new novel. I wish I could dive into his books and live there!
