At Heaven's Command in #Huddersfield

When Britain first, at heaven's command............

Designed by the Huddersfield born architect William Cocking, Britannia Buildings were built in the 1850s.

The property has a central parapet bearing the Royal Arms, above which is the huge sculpture of Britannia together with a flagpole.

Britannia Buildings was originally built as a warehouse for George Crosland, woollen manufacturer. It's rather an elaborate building for a warehouse, but it was designed this way to give a good impression to travellers arriving by train at the Railway Station.

After two weeks in the new job I had accumulated enough time to take the afternoon off  :-)
