Garam Masala Pyramid

Yes, that's right. Garam Masala was used in the construction of this pyramid.

A 4-week project on Ancient Egypt for Year 5. Son of Mine wanted to make a wooden stepped pyramid to his own design with Grandpa (the Grand Master of all things woodworky).

So after cutting, nailing and sticking, it was ready to be painted. Poster paint and PVA at the ready, Husband of Mine is sent to the garage for sand to add to the mix to complete the authentic surface.

Sand? None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

We scoured the kitchen cupboards for a substitute. Semolina? None. Cous-cous? Grains were too big, and refused to accept pounding with pestle and mortar.

Garam Masala? Oh yes! Close up the texture is speckled and the smell is, well, just like walking into your local Indian takeaway!
