Progress

My brother is a cabinet maker; his most lucrative and interesting work is kitchens, usually for people to show off in. He tells of people who have two kitchens, one to cook in and one to entertain in.

One of his recurring themes is the amount of money people spend really badly. There's cases where clients have spent tens of thousands and made a right mess of it. And my brother reckons its cos they have a fixed idea in their mind as to what they want to do and there's no flexibility within that. Whereas if you take a more evolutionary approach - do some of the work, see how it looks, then decide what you'd like to do net etc until completion his experience is you're much more likely to get a better finished product.

So, I am taking a slow methodical approach to furnishing the flat. The latest addition is a couple of shelves. And entirely self indulgent they are, too!

Primarily I wanted to light the furthest corner from the door; as you walk into the room, you'll want to gravitate to the far corner; its the comfy corner of the sofa.

But more importantly, its somewhere to rest a glass of shiraz....!

Looks very stylish, too. A tenner well spent, a useful half hour with drills, spirit levels and screws and the boys loved helping out too!
