Deadened sounds

My walk to work this morning was a bit like an out of body experience. The fog was inconsistent from wispy light to dense cloud, the result being that shapes and lights disappeared and reappeared regardless of my approach.
Out on the Clyde I could hear the Calmac ferries making the crossing without being able to track their journey. Even the birds had muffled far away voices.
I tend to take for granted the monkey puzzle trees on Ardbeg Road, the view of the bay always catching my eyes, here this morning they appeared as giants guiding me into town.
