Who thinks of these things?

I came up blank for slimy, so chose to use foamy or flaky instead! Here's what happens when you microwave a bar of Ivory soap. It foams up to six times its size. And, no, it wasn't me who came up with this!

Here's a link if you want to learn a little more about the science of this foam trick. It demonstrates Charles' Law, which states the volume of a gas increases with its temperature. The microwaves impart energy into the soap, water, and air molecules, causing them to move faster and further away from each other. The result is that the soap puffs up. Other brands of soap don't contain as much whipped air and simply melt in the microwave.
