WHAT'S IN HERE?

It looks like the female red-bellied woodpecker has found something interesting in this broken limb – the result of the recent ice storm. Since the break is so high in the tree, we're unable reach it to trim it off.

The good news is the birds have returned – all the different types. The general consensus is that when the weather warmed up for a few days, they went foraging for their natural food. Since the snow and ice had melted and they were able to find their regular seeds, etc., they didn’t need the things people set out for them as much. It was suddenly extremely cold again today, and the birds were back - busy at the feeders again. That’s just a guess, but it makes sense.
